History

Foundation – the first sports clinic in Switzerland

The Praxisklinik Rennbahn practice was founded in Muttenz by three doctors, Bernhard Segesser, Peter Jenoure and Richard Feinstein. It opened in 1981 as the very first institution dedicated to orthopaedics and sports medicine in Switzerland.

Growth

The subsequent years were characterised by growth: the ward was expanded to 10 beds in 1984, and the physiotherapy department was expanded in 1989. By extending into a neighbouring building, it was possible to annex a new training centre. The clinic has been designated as a "Swiss Olympic Medical Center" since 1996. The biomechanics department was expanded from 1999 onwards, and has since become a key part of our service range.

Praxisklinik Rennbahn became a public limited company (AG) in early 2003. Bernhard Segesser became Chairman of the Board of Directors. As part of the restructuring, co-founder and long-standing co-owner Peter Jenoure departed from Praxisklinik Rennbahn. In 2007, Bernhard Segesser stood down from the shareholding, handed over management of the clinic and gradually reduced his professional responsibilities at the organisation. In 2008, Frank Denzler became a partner and new Chairman of the Board of the Directors. The clinic has had a Director since 2009.

New development of the Rennbahnklinik

This institution has become an integral part of the clinic and hospital scene in Switzerland, and provides exceptional care and treatment services to athletes of all levels. Against this background, the existing facilities had become insufficient to cope with the rising demand. With this in mind, the company – now bearing the name of 'Rennbahnklinik' – moved to a spacious new development at Polyfeld in Muttenz in January 2014. The new site offers a larger area and expanded infrastructure, and it unites the full range of sports medicine treatment in one location – state-of-the-art diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation.
